Landscaping 101: Natural Belgian Bluestone

Perfect for Pool & Patio

Our premium European limestone paving will elevate your landscape with natural strength and beauty. Known for its durability and earthy charm, it is a top choice for landscape architects. Belgian Blue Limestone is available in many tile sizes and paving stone styles perfect for patios, pathways, pools, walls, and more.

Our Belgian Limestone brings subtle visual interest and is suitable for endless applications. Our stone features tiny crinoid fossils. Often, you will find fossilized remains of beautiful sea creatures that lived millions of years ago.

Selecting Your Products & Finishes

To choose the ideal finish for paving:

Consider the climate.  You'll want to determine the desired shade and texture to complement your landscape design and lifestyle. Will bare feet be walking in this area? If so, we offer light finishes.

From there, think about safety. Is there water nearby? Do you have a pool? Does rain hit this area? We have non-slip finishes for wet areas.

 Other Benefits of Limestone Paving

Our limestone is strong, durable, and weather-resistant. Snow, hail, frost, and heavy rain will not harm the stone.

Additionally, the low porosity of the stone is a huge benefit. It will not hold water and it will not mold!

When you imagine a garden paradise, limestone paving likely comes to mind. It offers many benefits, from its natural beauty and durability to its eco-friendliness and low maintenance requirements.

Our limestone patios and pathways look gorgeous against colorful plantings or a lush green lawn. Unlike poured concrete, (which can crack and peel), the natural fossils add character and depth to your outdoor space. The versatility of limestone paving will make you appreciate your outdoor space.

Easy Care

Who doesn’t want a material that's no fuss? Limestone paving requires little ongoing maintenance compared to other outdoor living surfaces. Limestone won't decompose like wood decking or require chemical treatments and sealing, like other natural stones. It simply requires occasional sweeping or hosing off. Once installed, limestone patios, walkways, and driveways retain their beauty for decades, enhancing landscapes with a low-maintenance natural stone.

Eco friendly

Limestone paving is an eco-friendly choice for outdoor spaces. As a natural stone, limestone is a sustainable building material that doesn't require extensive energy or resources for production. This stone is sustainably quarried and mechanically fabricated.

Its long lifespan and durability also omit the need for replacement.

Isn’t it Funny that Certain Things Get Better WIth Age?

Better With Age

Take whisky, cheddar cheese, some red wines, a cast iron skillet…these typically improve if aged properly.

We are thrilled to say that our authentic Belgian Bluestone gains a beautiful patina with age! (Fortunately, it doesn’t gain mold like some other limestones.)

When outside and exposed to the elements, it gets slightly more pale in color. This is a good thing as the paler the pavers, the less heat they will retain!

Inside, after hundreds of years, the floor tile gains a rich patina. Hard to describe, it just looks more elegant, slightly richer.

Considering the low maintenance of the stone, and the ability to recycle it for future generations, say “hello to patina!”

Respectfully yours, Shari

Charleroi’s urban revitalization

The town of Charleroi has a rich history and a unique, ever-changing, heritage. In the heart of this metamorphosis, urban revitalization is taking place, with particular care for the key points and public spaces that shape the town’s identity. In this quest for renewal, the bluestone flooring and renovation of the bluestone fountain are turning out to be key players, bringing a durable and elegant look.

Hainaut bluestone in various urban revitalization projects in Charleroi

Over the past two years, Charleroi has put into action a new bluestone flooring project.

The figures speak volumes about the project’s magnitude:

15,790 SF or 1467 m³ of 10 cm EnoLuce paving.

2,150 SF or 198 m³ of EnoSkin carved stones with a thickness of 20 cm.

One of the most remarkable transformations is that of Place Charles II, which has been renamed Place Vauban. This iconic square, home to the town hall and the Belfry of Charleroi, a UNESCO world heritage site, has been refurbished to become a landmark public space. The fountains and the symbolic patterns in the bluestone flooring make this space incomparably elegant.

We’re Dreaming of a Blue-Green Christmas

It all begins with nature.

It all begins with natural stone.

Limestone, born in ancient tropical seas over 345 million years, when layer upon layer of oceanic remnants, including crinoids, formed this dense, strong, limestone found in the Hainaut region of Belgium.

The quarry pays meticulous attention to how the stone is extracted. They are members of the “Life in Quarries” initiative. Installed are photovoltaic panels producing electricity to power manufacturing. No chemicals are used during production - the stone is fabricated into slabs, tile, and more using 100% mechanical techniques.

This is why we dream of a Blue (Belgian Bluestone) Green (Environmentally conscious) Christmas!
